Product Review: Kolcraft Cuddle ‘n Care Bassinet

bassinet

Thanks to my baby registry and generosity of friends and family, I now have a ton of baby products to put to good use and review.

So I’ve decided to start with the Kolcraft Cuddle ‘n Care Bassinet priced at $99 from Babies R Us. Initially, it took me forever to decide on which bassinet to register for; the reviews I found online were mixed. However, the selling point for the Kolcraft bassinet was the cute and functional design: it was gender-neutral with mobile and light vibes included, and also looked super secure for baby.

Some things I love about the bassinet? Well for starters, it really is as cute as it looks and the retractable canopy is ideal for keeping an eye on baby from all angles. The attached mobile has a selection of sounds from common lullabies and classical songs to nature sounds that help soothe baby at night, while the dangling teddies give him something to keep his eyes on. Also, the basket below is very roomy for all your storage needs (although I haven’t really needed to use it too much). Lastly, moving from room to room becomes effortless with the easy-roll wheels that can lock in place.

Things I dislike? The mattress pad is definitely as flimsy as described in the reviews…only about an inch think. Another major issue here, is that you can’t get an exact fit mattress sheet unless you order directly from the manufacturer 🙁 and that is a pain in the butt when you are trying to get things from a registry. (Note: I ended up getting a mattress pad for the bassinet which actually works better than the fitted sheets!) Also, the rocking feature isn’t really useful…that’s because in order to rock the bassinet you have to flip the entire thing over to unlock the legs…I haven’t figured out an easy way around this yet. Oh, one other thing. When the mobile batteries begin to run low…the sweet, heavenly lullabies really do become distorted and end up sounding very creepy!

Overall, I’d give this one an 8 out of 10. It has its flaws, but ultimately gets the job done!
