- A legal resident of an adjoining state who is employed or operating a business in Wyoming
- The spouse or legal dependent of military personnel on active duty in Wyoming
2) Review the Wyoming Notary Education Presentation
Due to notary laws that became effective on July 1, 2021, all applicants are required to review the state’s Notary Education Presentation. The presentation reviews basic notary information, processes and state laws.
3) Consider Purchasing a Notary Bond
While notary bonds are not required under Wyoming law, we strongly recommend purchasing one before you start notarizing. That’s why we include a $500 bond in our all-in-one notary package. Surety bonds are required for notaries in most states because they act as the notary’s promise to uphold the notarial law. The bond does not protect the notary. It protects any individual who may be financially harmed by a notary’s negligent act, whether intentional or accidental. Learn more about surety bonds (and errors & omissions insurance) here.
4) Sign and Submit the Application
When you purchase our notary package, we fill out the “applicant information” section for you using the information you provided us. We will email the pre-filled application to you.
Once you get the application from us, you’re ready to do the following:
- Print the application and sign it in the presence of a commissioned notary.
- Answer the 20 true/false questions on your notary application after reviewing the Notary Education Presentation. You need to get at least 14 questions correct to pass.
- Include a $60 check or money order made payable to the Wyoming Secretary of State for the notary filing fee. We do not collect the state fee from you when you purchase the notary package.
After finishing these steps, mail your completed notary application packet directly to:

5) Complete the Notary Commission Certificate Process
After you've submitted your application to the state, it usually takes five to seven business days for you to receive your Appointment Letter and Certificate of Commission. Because the state does not provide a notary stamp, our notary package includes a custom self-inking stamp that meets or exceeds state specifications.
Your stamp will include:
- Your notary public commission name
- The words “Notary Public”
- The words “State of Wyoming”
- Your commission ID number
- The words “My commission expires” followed by the expiration date of your notary public commission*
*Because the expiration date is required, we cannot manufacture your notary stamp until you send your Certificate of Commission to us. Email it to info@notaries.com, then we’ll promptly ship your custom stamp to you.
Wyoming also requires that all notaries keep a record-keeping journal. That’s why we include one in our complete notary package.
